Take Part in the Study

This undergraduate thesis examines how Artificial Intelligence is currently being used and integrated within architectural design and production workflows, and how its role may be appropriately defined within professional architectural practice.

The study focuses on the relationship between AI applications, architectural workflow tasks, and professional responsibility, with particular attention to the Philippine context and the workflow realities of architects practicing in Cavite.

Participation will help provide evidence on how AI is being used in practice, the conditions surrounding its integration, and how AI-assisted systems function within architectural workflows.

This is an independent academic thesis. It is not a survey issued by the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) or any professional body.

The study asks how much AI involvement is appropriate for each task, and what architect oversight that involvement requires.

The Central Question

Research question

What boundaries should guide the degree and role of AI involvement across architectural design and production workflow tasks?

The study does not seek one universal rule such as “AI stops at Stage X.” It asks how a common assessment basis can help determine appropriate AI involvement for individual tasks, while the final professional threshold remains dependent on the architect, firm, project, and professional standards.

Architectural production here means the preparation and development of drawings, documentation, and project outputs. It does not mean physical construction.

How the Framework Works

The study's output is the Strategic Human–AI Architectural Workflow Framework: a structured basis for deciding, task by task, what AI's role should be and what architect oversight is needed. It supports professional judgment and does not replace it.

The Four-Pillar Assessment

Each workflow task is examined through four assessment dimensions. They are not yes/no gates. Together they describe the task.

01Professional JudgmentHow much the task depends on the architect's professional judgment.
02Accountability / ConsequenceWhat is at stake if the output is wrong, and who answers for it.
03VerifiabilityHow readily the output can be checked against defined project or professional criteria.
04Contextual Dependence / AmbiguityHow strongly the task depends on context, and how open to interpretation it is.

From task to boundary

  1. Architectural workflow taskFor example, façade exploration or drawing coordination.
  2. Four-Pillar AssessmentThe task is examined across the four dimensions.
  3. AI role and degree of involvementWhat function AI performs, and how substantially it takes part.
  4. Architect oversight and verificationWhat the architect must check, validate, and decide.
  5. AI Functional BoundaryThe appropriate limit of AI's role or reliance for that task, relative to human judgment and professional accountability.
Preliminary mechanism. The assessment is being demonstrated through a proof-of-concept on an architectural scenario. It is not yet validated. Practitioner survey and expert interview evidence will be used to refine it so that it reflects Philippine architectural practice.

Who Can Participate?

Cavite-Based Architects

The survey is intended for architects who:

  • Are Registered and Licensed Architects in the Philippines;
  • Are currently practicing or residing in Cavite Province;
  • Are actively involved in architectural workflows, including design development, technical documentation, coordination, or related production activities; and
  • Have exposure to digital tools and varying levels of experience with AI-assisted technologies.
You do not need to be an advanced AI user. Different levels of familiarity and use are relevant to understanding the conditions surrounding AI integration in architectural practice.

Subject Matter Experts

The study also invites professionals with specialized expertise at the intersection of AI and architectural design and/or production in the Philippines.

SME eligibility is based on documented professional experience demonstrating relevant expertise, evidenced through one or more of the following:

  • Professional talks, lectures, panels, or workshops;
  • Publications or research;
  • Documented architectural projects involving AI applications; or
  • Company or studio work specializing in AI-applied architectural technologies.

SMEs may be based anywhere in the Philippines and do not need to be located in Cavite.

Participants must either be a Registered and Licensed Architect or occupy an architecture-related professional role relevant to AI, architectural technology, digital practice, or related fields.

What Will I Be Asked to Do?

For Cavite-Based Architects

You will be asked to complete a structured survey concerning your experience with AI and digital technologies in architectural practice. The survey covers areas such as:

AI familiarity and useYour level of exposure to and use of AI-assisted systems.
Architectural workflowsWhere AI is currently used or considered within design, visualization, documentation, production, coordination, and related activities.
Integration conditionsFactors such as technological readiness, workflow compatibility, organizational conditions, and practical barriers.
Professional practiceExperiences and perceptions concerning AI-assisted work, review, validation, and professional responsibility.

For Subject Matter Experts

You will be invited to participate in a semi-structured interview concerning your experience and expertise in AI-assisted architectural practice. Discussion areas include:

AI applicationsHow AI is being applied within architectural design and production.
Workflow useHow AI-assisted systems function within actual architectural workflows.
Implementation conditionsConditions, opportunities, limitations, and practical considerations affecting AI integration.
Human–AI collaborationHow architects and AI-assisted systems interact within professional workflows.

What Happens to My Information?

Responses are confidential. Results are reported in aggregate and used only for this thesis, in accordance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012.

Why Participate?

Your input helps show how AI is actually being used in architectural practice in the Philippines, and under what conditions. The findings will shape the Strategic Human–AI Architectural Workflow Framework, a structured basis for deciding AI roles and architect oversight across workflow tasks.
